New York Liberty History
The New York Liberty was founded on October 30, 1996 and is one of three active founding franchises in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The Liberty have made five WNBA Finals appearances, in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2023, and topped the Eastern Conference seven times. In 2023, the team captured the in-season Commissioner's Cup behind a Finals MVP performance from Jonquel Jones, and later reached the WNBA Finals. Breanna Stewart was named the 2023 WNBA Most Valuable Player, becoming the first Liberty player to win the award, while Courtney Vandersloot earned the Peak Performer Award for assists and Sabrina Ionescu was named to All-WNBA Second Team for a second consecutive season .?

Barclays Center is the downtown Brooklyn home of the New York Liberty. Since hosting the team’s homecoming game in 2021, Barclays Center has housed plenty of playoff action for the Liberty, including two WNBA Finals games in 2023. by Sandy on 9/27/24Barclays Center - BrooklynAvoid CLEAR. Overly zealous guards (examined advil blister pack!) Make CLEAR much slower than main entrance. Eat before arriving: Barclays has limited food choices and is pre cooked prior to gate opening resulting in lukewarm hotdogs, etc. Ushers, however, are polite and professional.

by Angelarock on 9/26/24There's no fan like a NY fan. Barclays is a great arena-though I don't like the near 90 degree angle of level 2. You have a good view from any seat. The energy is always contagious and what can I say about Ellie, best mascot ever! The concession stands are the worst though-better to eat before you come.

Getting there early always allows us to enjoy short concession lines, get all our snacks and take pics before the game starts. We love watching the before game practice as it sets us up for the main entrance. The music, the vibes, Ellie, the great playing and the awesome super supportive fans make this a great experience!! We love it there!

Ja Rule killed it and then it was good to see a lot of celebrities. And it was good to reconnect with people I had met when liberty was at Madison Square Garden. Thank you!
