The show was excellent and would have been 5 stars if I didn’t have to deal with Ticketmaster.
Absolutely fantastic show and would see them again a thousand times over.
First blush of a Phish-connected show, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was somewhat familiar with the album being supported, but holy Hannah they blew me away. The improvisation between the top and end of tunes was amazing; the clear communication between band members (even though it was Rachel's (I missed her last name) first time on stage with the band, she carried more than her weight with some amazing work between her and the guitarist. The fun they had on stage came right through and made the whole experience absolutely incredible.
Always wanted to see Mike’s show and glad we did. The crowd was mello, the place not packed, and we got to sit in our favorite spot with a clear view. The players were great, the light show was different obviously from Phish but got more interesting as the show moved along. I’m not real crazy about the studio version of Flying Games but seeing it live was much better for me. I love Mull, and closing with Carrini was kickin’! Thanks Mike and band for a very enjoyable night out at the State Theater!
I was kind of up in the air about whether I would like Mike apart from Phish. But I’m so glad I went. It was an amazing show. Mike is a fantastic performer and I will definitely be attending more shows in the future. He was fun and energetic, he really put on an awesome show.
Had a great time seeing Mike Gordon at the Newport! He and his band bring a great stage show and their grooving tunes are unique, dream-like, catchy, and creative. We'd love to see Mike Gordon at the Newport again and again!
My wife and I are longtime Deadheads, only starting seeing Phish last year but immediately became phanatics. Saw 2 great Phish shows at Blossom and Pittsburgh in '19 then had to catch this Mike Gordon solo show. Completely different music but spectacular in its dark, driving rhythms. If you like bass and syncopation, this is the place to be, and all the musicians are good. The intimate venue also allowed Mike to mingle with the crowd and sign autographs in the lobby afterward, so we got tell him it was a great show. One constructive criticism - as with recent previous shows at Newport (e.g., Marcus King), the sound was muddy. Perhaps the band sound folks need to understand the acoustics of the hall better.
Mike and his band put on a great show. It was high energy and well executed. Mike stuck around afterward and did a meet and greet and autographs at the merchandise stand, and it was great to meet him after 22 years of being a fan. The Newport Music Hall was easy to get to and also easy to navigate on the inside. The venue is older and could use some love, but having been to all the small clubs at home in Detroit that was nothing new to me. The venue allowed the people without tickets (who were waiting for possible extras) to stand in the entryway, which was very nice since it was bitter cold outside. Parking across the street in the OSU ramp was quick and easy. Overall a great experience.
Great music, good light show and awesome acoustics in the venue. Opened up with a new song called "Stealing Jamaica" which was a great way to start the show.
