LIGHT ASYLUM is the internationally celebrated dark, electronic project of founder, vocalist, producer and multi-disciplinary performance artist, Shannon Funchess. Discovering an affinity for singing at an early age in a southern baptist church, she developed a powerful contralto through junior and high school choir, vocal ensembles, post-punk and indy bands adding Cocteau Twins, Joy Division, Grace Jones, Nina Simone, Nina Hagen, Depeche Mode and Diamanda Galás to a list of influences. Formed in Brooklyn, New York in 2007 Funchess, a fan of collaboration had previously seen demand as a vocalist lending her talents on artists such as TV On The Radio and !!! (chk,chk,chk) studio recordings. She would later go on to collaborate on stages and co-productions with LCD Sound System, ADULT. and The Knife
My husband and I took our 18yo daughter to the show. Arrived a lil late and walked in to hear Trust playing Shoom and I started jamming from the minute I arrived. Unfortunately, my kid got kicked out due to sipping on a drink :( I left her outside to people watch just to see LA play “Dark Allies”. Had a blast even though we didn’t get to see the whole show together. She now wants to move to BK. The best time.
