While it is wonderful to be able to again see opera at The Lyric it is a great shame that this particular production was so, well, flat. The lead singers voices seemed to be muted, and Ms Lynch's interpretation of Countess Almaviva, one of Opera's most genuinely sympathetic characters, fell well short of engendering much sympathy from me. The "comedy factor" for the characters of Dr Bartolo, Marcellina, Don Basilio et al was half-hearted, at best. Where was the directorial hand of Mr Uzan? The notable exceptions to the general lack-lustre performances were Ms Gunlogson's "Cherubino" and Ms Wimbish's "Barbarina". Fortunately, the contributions of Marian Pop as Count Almaviva, the chorus, Maestro Rescigno and the musicians of the BSO saved the day.

I FOUND PARTICULARLY THE FIRST TWO ACTS TOTALLY ENGAGING.... ACT THREE REALLY COULD BE ABSORBED INTO A SINGLE THIRD ACT WITH THE FOURTH...A BIT WEAK TO ME IN ENGAGEMENT... OVERALL THOUGH A TASTE OF MINDFUL ART.. THE PRODUCTION VALUE WORKED THE SPLIT STAGE TRIOS WORKED VERY WELL....THE JUDGE'S VOICE IS ONE TO WATCH -- ALL PITCHED WELL... BEATS TV

Rating: 5 out of 5by Qiandrew on 3/13/12Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric - Baltimore While the price of the tickets can seem a bit daunting, the masterful playing by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the excellent acting and singing by the actors, especially Figaro and Suzanna made the cost, for me, entirely reasonable. The pacing is a bit slow compared to contemporary entertainment, but the music and the operatic singing allow for those who are perhaps more inclined to a Michael bay action picture to transition very smoothly into enjoying Le Nozze di Figaro. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seating I bought the bottom-floor center tickets ($155 per seat) and thought my row, row M, would be rather far back. After attending the performance, however, I think I would purchase a ticket in the middle of row O or P. Since viewing the subtitles are necessary to follow the play and the fact that the subtitles are shown on a screen hung about 30 feet above the stage, seating in the back-center or in the balcony would prevent any neck pains. I had no trouble viewing it, being 6'2" and having an abnormally long neck. My 5'4" girlfriend, however, had different sentiments. The orchestra was phenomenal so I would recommend sitting towards the front. But wherever you seat, the performance will definitely be an enjoyable one.

by Nearly on 3/12/12Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric - BaltimoreWhile this is my first opera in the flesh, I have been listening to classical music my entire life. This opera drew me in because Mozart is my all time favorite composer, so I was truly excited to see this opera live and I was NOT disappointed! All of the cast were amazing and gave incredible performances! Suzanna's voice was like an angel and Figaro stole my heart from the beginning!
Rating: 5 out of 5 A Stunning Performance
by TotSpur on 3/11/12Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric - BaltimoreThis was one of the best live performances of Le Nozze Di Figaro I have ever heard, and to hear it in Baltimore at the Lyric was the icing on the cake. The stage was stunning- the garden props were beautiful and the audience certainly noticed due to the applause and "Ooos and Ahhs" during the exchange. All the cast were superb- I don't have a negative thought about the entire night. I caught myself smiling in admiration several times, as some of the performances were so powerful and moving I wanted to talk about them right then and there. Overall, what more can I say, I really hope they come back to Baltimore soon.

by 1MMc on 3/11/12Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric - BaltimoreExcellent - the stage was well designed and the actors playing the Countess and Figaro were outstanding!!! Well done! For the record, my 9-yr old god-daughter's favorite character was Cherubino... this was her first time at the opera, and I thought it would be a little too over her head. She loved it!
