Have yet to see a bad JRAD Show. About as consistent as the sun rising and setting.
One of my favorite things about seeing live music is getting up close to the stage and experiencing the ensemble dynamics that the band members themselves experience. In the case of this show, I think the bandmates couldn’t have been enjoying themselves more. There were moments of pure joy on their faces, smiles and jokes passed around. Pure excitement and wonder at what the other was doing - even some surprises when they all arrived in an unexpected place. It’s a treat to hear GD and other repertoire live when played so well by such accomplished musicians. They might use some vocal development, but the jams are so tasty that it’s all forgivable. This show was truly a pleasure and I left feeling somehow melancholy that the real Dead are so long gone, but nourished by the reconnection through music and shared audience experience. Thanks for the love, guys!
Although the first set was impacted by a somewhat muddy sound, the second set was much improved. The sound was more dialed in and the set list was excellent! JRAD carries the Grateful Dead legacy ' furthur'! Excellent musicianship and tight but loose jams if that is such a thing!
The venue at Leader Bank Pavillion was a pretty chill spot. Smaller for sure but effective with really great, friendly staff. We were in the back at the tables and could still see the stage quite well and had lots of room to dance then just hang. Sound quality was excellent. As far as the actual performance of JRAD, while fabulous musicians, was sort of a meh for me. Maybe I was expected to really be WOWED because I’ve heard so many great things. They were good, no doubt, but I can say I much prefer DSO after seeing them a few times. DSO jams HARD… JRAD felt, to me, just super chill and like they would die out with their energy before the end of any tune. Couldn’t keep the jam really going. Maybe I just didn’t get the best high energy show? I would certainly see them again though. Also, I’ll say the intermission felt extra long and the actual show ended at 10:25 prompt. Felt a bit gypped for the ?? and that it was just another streamlined gig on their tour. Will try again though and would return to LBP!
Easily the best jam band on the road today. A powerful force of nature, a runaway freight train, a tightrope without a net, a royal straight flush, these 5 are unbeatable!
The mix was mushy and it significantly downgraded the experience.
So happy to finally get to see them in person for the first time. Great Show! Won't be my last. Also first visit to Leader Bank Pavilion... loved the intimate setting, will definitely be back here as well. Look forward to having JRAD local again soon!
Joe Russo’s Almost Dead gave a good performance, but for me it was a little long winded as each song seemed to have a space type jam In the middle. I would have preferred more songs and less jamming. Just my opinion
Loved everything about this show. The venue was perfect. Intimate with plenty of space and JRAD was fire!!
