Joan Jett at the Hardrock, Rockford
by Black Bart on 9/5/24Hard Rock Live Rockford - RockfordThis was the opening weekend weekend of the all new Hardrock Casino in Rockford Illinois and on Sat Aug 31st, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Joan Jett and the Blackhearts put on a great show! Joan Jett sounded great, the band was very tight and the lead guitarist was amazing! I found out after the show they had been opening for Alanis Morissette all summer and they sure seemed to be in top form. In addtion to her own classics (I Love Rock and Roll, I Hate Myself for Loving You) there were some songs dating back to her time with The Runaways (Cherry Bomb, You Drive Me Wild), some great covers (Everyday People from Sly and the Family Stone and Crimson and Clover from Tommy James and the Shondelles) as well as some songs from her newer albums and even some surprise covers like Adrogynous as she shouted out one of my favorite songwriters, Paul Westerberg! There was no opening act but JJ and the BH took the stage and delivered a nonstop 1 hour and 20 minute set, with high energy and musicianship and Joan was great onstage even at age 65. The venue was very nice as well but I supposed it should be as it was brand new. Highly recommend both the venue and seeing Joan Jett and the Blackhearts if you can catch them later on this year!
