Once a wider audience caught on to McPherson's raw, roots-conscious mix of 1950s/early '60s R&B, rock 'n' roll, and blues influences, McPherson's debut made its way to the top of Billboard's Heatseekers chart.?

Since McPherson grew up in a rural part of Oklahoma, free from the distractions of city life, he spent his youth focusing on the old-school sounds he loved and learned how to channel them into something all his own. His second record, 2015's Let the Good Times Roll, pierced the Top 20 on the Rock Albums chart, earning him even more attention. For his third LP, 2017's Undivided Heart & Soul, McPherson modernized his approach a bit while still staying in touch with his musical roots.
