Houston Rockets History
The Rockets joined the NBA as an expansion franchise in 1967, when they were located in San Diego. They moved to Houston in 1971 and had a string of playoff appearances, but only made it past the second round once. Until 1984, that is — when the Rockets selected future Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon with the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft. In just his second season, Olajuwon led the Rockets to an NBA Finals appearance, where they lost to the Boston Celtics in six games. That was part of a stretch in which the Rockets made the playoffs 15 times in 16 years.
The high point of Olajuwon's career came in the 1993–94 and 1994–95 seasons, when he led the Rockets to the franchise's only two NBA Championships. In 1993–94, the Rockets needed seven games to defeat the Phoenix Suns in the second round, then came back from a 3-2 deficit in the NBA Finals to defeat the New York Knicks in seven games. Olajuwon won league MVP, Finals MVP and Defensive Player of the Year that season.
The Rockets followed that by winning another title the next year. This time, they coasted through the NBA Finals, sweeping the Orlando Magic — led by future Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal — in four games.
The Rockets have not been back to the NBA Finals since 1995, but they have maintained a steady stream of success. After acquiring James Harden in a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2012, they made the playoffs every season until 2020–21. The Rockets won the Southwest Division in 2019–20, but lost in the Western Conference Semifinals to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Houston Rockets at Toyota Center
The Toyota Center has been the home of the Houston Rockets since its construction was completed in 2003. The Rockets originally shared the arena with the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League and the Houston Comets of the WNBA, but they've had the building to themselves since 2013.
The Toyota Center provides entertaining options for people of all ages. Fans can enjoy skee-ball, pop-a-shot and a miniature basketball court for children. Stations are provided where fans can make their own signs or get their face painted. Fans also can take a walk down memory lane with replica lockers that display jerseys, shoes, photos and stats of the most legendary players of the Rockets franchise.
Resale tickets for the Houston Rockets’ 2024–25 regular season can be purchased on Ticketmaster.

Houston rockets vs Oklahoma City thunder was amazing! I like how we get to see the nba play some games down in the valley!
The game was secondary to all of the action. It was great seeing all of the "personalities" (i.e. Yao). There was action always going on.
I was hoping the rockets would have won, but it was good to see a NBA game live and close to home. This was our first NBA game so it was great.
It was awesome! I wish there were more games down here!
The venue's size made it to where all seats had a great view.
Awesome evening watching NBA players in the Rio Grande Valley. State Farm Arena was very well organized except for the few ushers that did not understand English. We don't get many opportunities to view NBA players up close and this was an excellent game. Orlando had starters playing in the 4th quarter so even though the floor seats were ridiculously expensive it was a nice experience.
Houston Vs. Orlando was a great, exciting, entertaining, well organized event...thanks!
Pretty cool game, its not everyday we get an event like this in south Texas. I can tell we are definately starved for entertainment. Every seat at Dodge Arena is a good seat so it was quite an experience.
Love watching all NBA games! Watching the Celtics live is always a treat!
I enjoyed the experience of my first ever pro basketball game. My favorite team,Boston Celtics vs. Houston Rockets.
What an exciting game. I hope the dodge arena will be able to offer more of these events. Can't wait for the next one!
good game hope this becomes a more common thing . la lakers next year would be great
The excitement leading up to game day was just awesome! For those who were able to go to the Convention Center and be part of the activities it was a moment to cherish. Game day was everything I thought it would be and more. People here in the Valley got a feel of what it is like to be at an NBA game if they have never been to one. Do this more often, it was great to see that the arena was sold out for such an event.
Teams played like if it was a regular season Game!! Hey It was the best, I got my jersey autographed by 2 Celtics, RASHEED and RAY ALLEN...
The outing to the basketball game on a week day was a great way to destress from work! Its exciting to see Professional Basketball players in person. They are really, really very tall, dah!!!
The Exhibition game felt like a once in a life time event. I have been to NBA games before, but never so close to home. For once it felt good not to worry about hotel expenses or planning around work to travel and make it out to a game. It was really exciting to see alot of my favortie athletes my husband and I had a great time. We hope there are more events like this in the future.
Seats were really great and game was really good for a expo. I never thought I would see the Celtics living on South Padre Island. Please do more of these events....
This game was great. The teams played with such intensity throughout the whole game. The electricity within the arena was tremendous. They should make this a yearly event. Go Celtics!!
Boston brought future Hall of Famers like Garnett, Wallace, Pierce, Rondo, etc. Houston brought former Viper standout Brooks. Boston let Houston win in the end due to the fact it was an exhibition game and they were suppose to be the hometown favorites.
I thought the game was awesome. It didn't matter what seat u had in the arena u were still close enough to see all the action. I am so glad that I decided to catch the game.
