GUIDED BY VOICES IN CONCERT:
For more than two decades, DIY torchbearers Guided by Voices have stood as a bastion of experimentation and lo-fi grit in indie rock's increasingly commercialized landscape. Their loose, sketch-like compositions truly come alive at their frenetic live shows, where the band tears through 90-second songs while frontman Robert Pollard sings, drinks, and karate kicks with reckless abandon. With two albums out in 2014, the ever-prolific band will be treating fans to new material alongside all their favorites at several? rare appearances.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed in Ohio in the early '80s, Guided by Voices developed around the work of principal songwriter and frontman Robert Pollard. Following several years of independent releases and local shows, the band began to find a wider audience when 1992 album Propeller became a college radio staple. Their growing reputation landed them a deal with Matador in 1994, and in 1995 they released Alien Lanes to critical acclaim and nods from big media outlets including MTV and Rolling Stone. The band continued to record and tour throughout the '90s and '00s, weathering lineup changes, hiatuses, farewell tours, and reunion tours — becoming a veritable indie rock legend in the process. With two new albums hitting shelves in 2014, the band is sure to be in top form at their highly coveted reunion shows.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"It was such a great, high-energy show. It was so fun to see people of all ages appreciate GBV for the great rock pioneers they are."
"GBV always give their fans their money's worth. Exhausting set of hits and album tracks that deserve to be hits."
"The most amazing show i have ever seen, everyone was singing all the words to every song, and the band were performing with unbelievable energy."

It had been a few years since I had seen them, but the old man still has it. Sounded great, rocked out and played a lot of old favorites as well as some new stuff that rocked. Great time!
I am a big GBV and Moles fan, so I was excited to see this show. It was not an enjoyable experience. The sound mix was terrible - very muddy. None of the instruments could be distinguished from each other and the vocals were too low. The overall effect was like being hit repeatedly with a sledgehammer. It also seemed the venue was oversold. I've been to crowded shows before, but this one seemed dangerously full. I doubt that I will ever go to a show at Irving Plaza again.
GBV Denver show Friday was mediocre at best. Although the band was full of energy and was pretty tight, Pollard is a bit past his prime. His vocals were terrible. Adding to my disappointment was the crappy sound mix. Distortion everywhere. Some of this may have been the band continuing to turn up on stage but I think mostly bad mixing, which probably was not helped by the venue size and its low ceiling. We left after about an hour and 20 with others deciding to do the same.
Fantastic show. Wussy was great. It was the sixth time seeing GBV. Easily the best show they’ve put on.
If the formula to rate a live show was the amount of money spent plus the amount of time spent enduring said show plus the actual quality of said show, adjusted for the misplaced swagger the frontman displayed, this would be the worst live show I've seen in thirty years. Absolutely horrid.
GBV live shows are priceless Longest set list on the planet It’s amazing how Pollard is nonstop his energy is unmatchable I recommend anyone with a chance to see them , to take it up!
GBV plays dated cock rock. Wussy blew them off the stage
With Wussy opening, it was a dream lineup. Awesome show by both bands. Bob Pollard is as tireless as he is prolific. I've been to numerous GBV shows and none have disappointed.
One of the best live acts in the last 30 years and just an incredible band, story and set as always. Over 120 albums and I don't think Bob and company are slowing down at all!
