Fushu Daiko: Ultimate Experience of Drums
by Johnny Rokett on 9/21/24Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft LauderdaleThis was a cultural and musical experience all in one. This had Japanese cultural significance behind it, and was a please having the Japanese performers here, and a Japanese representative was here to exchange flags with our mayor from their city and ours. As far as the music side, they had every size drum brought with them. Some sat on the floor, some on stands, some sat sideways, some forwards, some carried, they used them to get every tone possible from them. It is amazing to see an entire band play complete songs with nothing but drums. (they did throw in a tiny set of hand held cymbals, and little like bamboo flute, here and there) These musicians have some perfected rhythm, being able to keep up with one another drumming at speeds that were, faster than anything I can think of what to compare them to, without being off from one another, even while escalating and then on the descent. Pretty mind blowing. A great show. If the opportunity is available, we'll worth seeing. It was interesting to know that the drumming in Star Wars where the (of course I forget who he said) is marching, is Fushu Daiko Drummers sound track playing. Disney does a lot of Fushu Daiko Drumming Work. The Disney Teacher was there in the audience a couple of seats from me. He was very proud of the performance that evening.
