Fred Minnick's Blind Bourbon events are great and this one was extra well done. The history of Lawrenceburg whiskey, with all samples local to the area, was amazing.
Unbelievably chaotic start to the evening. How do you screw up seating, when you know what tickets were sold? Why would you NOT put the Row Letter somewhere on the table to help patrons find their spot? Got into an argument with a guy because he didn't know you all skipped the letter "I" in section 2, and he insisted we were in the wrong spot and needed to move asap. I matched up the diagram in the app with what was in front of us, and he calmed down and walked away. Next - Fred was graciously meeting with guests in the lobby prior to the event, so WHY did he meet with MORE people in the ready room when he was supposed to be ON STAGE? Fred didn't walk onto the stage until 9:05pm - 35 minutes late! Unfortunately, Fred kept us waiting another 45 minutes while chronicled the history of bourbon and led Molly Malone on stage through a sensory experiment. When the tasting finally started, Fred encouraged everyone to 'save some of each sample" for later - but the pours were less than .5 oz, and a single sip consumed most of it. The "last straw" of the evening was being rushed out of our seats so the venue could close down. My wife and I still had bourbon (the 2 friends we brought didn't drink much of theirs) - so instead of getting to enjoy them for a few more minutes, we had a worker standing over us, repeating his order to move out. I would NOT recommend this event to anyone. You could easily get full one ounce pours of each of the 5 bourbons for less than $30. It was not worth an additional $70 to have the doors open late, the event start late, hear Fred cover the history of bourbon, rush through a tasting, then get rushed out of the venue.
The Fred Minnick Blind Bourbon event was great, and the VIP tasting was outstanding, Fred was most entertaining. Highly recommended for anyone who loves drinking bourbon and learning more.
It was a great bourbon history lesson. Fun too! Wish we would have known we were going to have food. The ticket information didn’t say anything about that so we had already eaten.
The whole night was amazing, the first part of night was great with lots of history, stories and tastings of great bourbons/whiskey. Then as a UBER VIP tickets holder, we were treated to 7 more amazing whiskies to blind taste. Then a small quaint Q&A with Fred. Amazing program.
I was super stoked about this. I was eagerly awaiting buying tickets. The minute it was available I purchased. There was no VIP option to purchase. So i had regular old presale tickets. For the price i was extremely disappointed in the bourbon that we sampled. I enjoyed the education but this was certainly not worth the money
The flyer/promo I saw suggested we would be tasting whiskeys such as Pappy Van Winkle and Angel’s Envy Rye. We got Makers Mark, Wild Turkey 101, Blanton’s and Bradshaw. The event info was very short on describing the actual event. That being said, it was entertaining and very educational.
Fred was great. He provides a lot of education and he delivers a lot of fun. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
