I was privledged to have seen Chuck many times over the years at the Berks Jazz Fest. All his many friends played their hearts out for him this Sunday. Salute Eric Marienthal for putting this together and Rick Braun for hosting. I remember seeing Chuck "zoned" while playing his heart out then smiling when he knew he nailed it - WOW! He had a knack for getting the audience involved via clapping, whistling or singing along. I knew him through his music, and I wish I had known him personally. The ending was beautiful.
Awesome music, Brian Culbertson, Pieces of A Dream, Eric Roberson, Kim Waters, and Nick Colionne to name a few! A few surprise guests, and an awesome tribute to Chuck Loeb.. It was the best I’ve seen in a long time. Can’t wait until next year.
Dinner on the Mezzanine was exceptionally good! Buffet style, reasonable price. Not having to rush around to get dinner in before the show .... Priceless! Chuck Loeb was a genius Jazz Guitarist, writer, arranger, producer and so much more! This tribute to him by his friends (all giants in the Jazz scene) for his fans was nothing short of amazing! The emotions emanating from their instruments was palpable! This was a real tear jerker at times and rightly so as Chuck's absence leaves a crater sized hole in the Jazz community. The Final number (an arrangement of "Hallelujah" with gospel choir) coupled with a slide show of snippets of Chuck's life with his friends and family was a amazing capper to a most incredible evening! I will remember it and him always.
Compliments to Rick Braun and Eric Merienthal! And all the organizers of this incredible show! As well - the 40 plus artists who played their hearts out! As a front of house guy and musician I was absolutely amazed at how well the engineers kept this all together with so many artists and mic changes. Left me speechless. Not to mention just how appropriately well all of the artists saluted Chuck and his family and the obvious love and respect everyone had for Chuck's playing, writing, producing and as a genuinely nice and humble friend. This was a once in a lifetime experience and show. Those of us there were incredibly fortunate! We will miss you Chuck Loeb!
Best tribute concert I've ever seen.I enjoyed this show beyond words.
The music was awesome, but the personal stories that were shared put to words the great musician was an even more incredible person. So glad to have been a part of the evening.
AWESOME Artist there an AWESOME Tribute to Chuck Loeb! It was spectacular and moving. It brought me to tears, he will be missed.
This was an excellent concert. So many fellow musicians came out to play in this event. This is a reflection of the genius of Check Loeb and his kindness to others. Chuck Loeb had such a tremendous amount of music he either composed or co-wrote with so many other musicians. The video tribute that played while the gospel singers was singing, brought tears to your eyes. The concert ended with everyone standing and giving applause to a musician who was truly loved and will be missed.
On April 8, 2017, my husband and I had the immense pleasure of seeing (hearing) Chuck Loeb in a small venue as part of the 2017 Berks Jazz Fest. He was wonderful, talented, gracious (each of the local Berks horns was given a solo). One year to the day, 4/8/18, we were at "Remembering Chuck Loeb", where egos were set aside and 40+ world-class musicians played for three hours for Chuck and shared memories of this funny, loving, gifted man. The "Alleluia" at the end and five minute ovation where his friends turned their backs on the audience and watched with us a touching slide show will live in our memories. Wish I had time to post the video of the Alleluia finale and slides. The night was a tears and laughter, goosebumps celebration. I wished it was the finale to the 2018 Berks Jazz Fest.
