BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Singer-songwriter Martina Sorbara and bassist/producer Dan Kurtz met at a music festival and began collaborating soon after on their way to forming Dragonette in 2005. Word spread quickly about the band, and they opened for synthpop pioneers New Order at what was only their second show. Their adrenaline-filled live shows soon gave way to critical acclaim -- their 2007 debut record Galore got them nominated for best new artist at the Juno Awards (the Canadian equivalent to the Grammys). With their reputation growing, Dragonette grabbed the attention of nu disco DJ Martin Solveig, who collaborated with the group on several tracks including “Hello”. The song won a Juno for Dance Recording of the Year in 2012 and was featured in TV shows like 90210, The Vampire Diaries, and Gossip Girl. Their third album, 2012’s Bodyparts, built on the strengths of its predecessors and became Dragonette’s highest charting album in the US to date. As the group continues to collaborate and write new material, fans are lining up for their body-rocking live performances.
