Cortex is an influential psychedelic rock, jazz funk band. French pianist and composer Alain Mion formed the group in 1974. Known for fusing funk, bossa nova, samba-jazz, and much more together, the original lineup included Mion, drummer Alain Gandolfi, singer Mireille Dalbray, saxophonist Alain Labib and bassist Jean Grevet. Parts of their hit albums "Troupeau Bleu" (1975) and "Vol. 2" (1977) have been sampled by many prominent hip-hop artists, including MF DOOM and Wiz Khalifa. After splitting up in 1981, Mion got Cortex back together in 2009 with a rotating cast of musicians. Since then, the group has toured internationally and released new material.

by JP on 7/8/24Neptune Theatre - SeattleLoved the opportunity to see this great band for the first time! The guy was 77 playing next to a 24 yr old drummer and they were vibing brilliantly. Music was so good and the crowd loved it all.
