Columbus Blue Jackets History
The Columbus Blue Jackets — whose name pays tribute to Ohio's substantial contributions to the Union army during the Civil War — joined the NHL as an expansion franchise in 2000.
The Blue Jackets played their first 12 seasons as a member of the Western Conference, making their first foray into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2008-2009 led by All-Star winger Rick Nash and Rookie of the Year goaltender Steve Mason.
NHL realignment saw the team move to the Eastern Conference in 2013-2014, and the Blue Jackets have since collected six winning seasons and qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs five times. Columbus was one of just three teams to earn playoff berths in four consecutive seasons from 2016-2020, joining the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals.
In 2018-2019, the eighth-seeded Blue Jackets faced off against the Presidents' Trophy-winning and top-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs. The Blue Jackets shocked the heavily-favored Lightning as they became the first team in NHL history to earn a four-game sweep in the first round of the playoffs against a team with the league's best regular-season record.

Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena
The Columbus Blue Jackets have played at Nationwide Arena since their inaugural season in 2000. Located in the heart of The Arena District downtown, the arena features a 1857 Napoleon replica cannon that blasts when the Blue Jackets hit the ice at the start of the game, when they score, and at the end of the game following a Columbus win.

The bluejackets was a great time and the venue was amazing. It would of been better if they would have won.
My Wife and Myself went on the 10th of February… it was my Wife’s 1st time!!!! She had a blast, we will definitely be back.
Seats could be a little bigger but what can you do. The bacon on a stick is great
Attended a Bluejackets-Devils game at Nationwide Arena. Great arena, great game, and a great overall experience with a hotel (Drury Inn) within walking distance of the arena and lots of entertainment and food options in the Arena District around the arena. Great venue for a hockey game!
My wife and I had a blast as usual at the Blue Jackets game!
Staff, vendors, and fans are amazing. Excellent experience everytime we go
My wife and I stayed at the Hyatt. The walk to the arena was convenient and we also had plenty dining / drinking options nearby. Staff was friendly and helpful at Nationwide Arena. Overall experience was excellent.
Sneaky good hockey town! It was totally worth the 6 hour drive to see our favorite team play. Even though the Leafs lost we left the amazing Nationwide Arena very please with the experience! I'll say it again, sneaky good hockey town! Totally recommend going to Columbus for an NHL game!
Loved Nationwide Arena. We went to watch the Blue Jackets play the Maple Leafs and had a great time. Easy access with friendly staff, lots of concessions, great seats, we had a good time.
My wife & I thourghly enjoyed the Hockey game @ Nationwide Arena. Staff was attentive, local fans were were well behaved. Game was gr8.
Seats were fantastic, arena was really nice only wished the Jackets won. If I lived. Closer I would definitely have season tickets.
The experience and accommodations with the arena were fantastic ?? BUT, $22 to park in the parking garage, I thought was pretty outrageous!
We had a wonderful experience watching the Blue Jackets game. We drove in from out of town to watch the game. Great environment with good audience interaction, and easy merchandise, food, and drink options. We will be back to see another game.
I worked with Alec to get a group of educators and their families to the game. There was great communication throughout the entire experience. We had 16 seats together with a good overall view of the arena.
Love this arena and the amenities. Wish there were more wins to feel good about this place. Good food good drinks. Great kids day!
The club seats were not any more room than regular seats. I did like the concessions and rest room set up.
From the moment we went into the arena, it was game on . Everyone was so friendly there having a good time .And that cannon is LOUD! Can’t wait to go back and see The Blue Jackets play again .
I was glad to see the Columbus bluejackets snap a 9 game losing streak to beat the Chicago Blackhawks who had the number one draft pick. The score was 7-3.
Saw a Penguins v Blue Jackets hockey game at Nationwide Arena: Awesome seats, great game, nice venue!
I'm a fan of both teams, but since I'm originally from Michigan, I had to root for the Red Wings, but usually I'm a Blue Jackets fan!
