Columbus Blue Jackets History
The Columbus Blue Jackets — whose name pays tribute to Ohio's substantial contributions to the Union army during the Civil War — joined the NHL as an expansion franchise in 2000.
The Blue Jackets played their first 12 seasons as a member of the Western Conference, making their first foray into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2008-2009 led by All-Star winger Rick Nash and Rookie of the Year goaltender Steve Mason.
NHL realignment saw the team move to the Eastern Conference in 2013-2014, and the Blue Jackets have since collected six winning seasons and qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs five times. Columbus was one of just three teams to earn playoff berths in four consecutive seasons from 2016-2020, joining the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals.
In 2018-2019, the eighth-seeded Blue Jackets faced off against the Presidents' Trophy-winning and top-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs. The Blue Jackets shocked the heavily-favored Lightning as they became the first team in NHL history to earn a four-game sweep in the first round of the playoffs against a team with the league's best regular-season record.

Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena
The Columbus Blue Jackets have played at Nationwide Arena since their inaugural season in 2000. Located in the heart of The Arena District downtown, the arena features a 1857 Napoleon replica cannon that blasts when the Blue Jackets hit the ice at the start of the game, when they score, and at the end of the game following a Columbus win.

Back in 2022 me and my best friend we went to the CBJ vs. the Detroit Red Wings game and we had a great time during halftime we went downstairs and got us some food and drink it was a self-served buffet and of course the CBJ won the hockey game and I got's to take a picture with stinger the CBJ Mascot
Great venue. location is convenient for out of towners. Sat in club seats. Would recommend to anyone.
Columbus has the nicest venue by far in the 30 years i`ve been going to games. From the staff to the Columbus fans, it is an awesome venue. It was a joy watching a loss.
The team is average at best. I don't know why the Blue Jackets can't put a playoff caliber team together. As for Nationwide arena it is top notch! Great views from the top of the stadium. The Blue Jackets guest experience was great how they try to keep the fans involved. The towels for fans on the back of seats was an added bonus.
Was there to see the Pittsburgh Penguins! The game was exciting. Other than the Pens losing it was an enjoyable evening. The venue is great! ??
I was concerned about how everything would work out but it turned out to be very efficient. The seats were better than I anticipated.
Took my grand daughter and enjoyed every moment…Olivier set the tone and the Jackets dominated the best talent in the league the rest of the way…
Very nice arena. But lacking in overall fan experience. Could try a little harder to get the crowd going.
Great venue.. good food will go back to see more CBJ hockey games. Hopefully they start winning more games.
