With a double set, performed both in and out of costume, CKY rocked the Troc from start to finish. With a packed house, the crowd was loving every second of the show from the first song to the last. Interacting with the fans, bringing out long-lost songs into the setlist, and the band enjoying every second of the night just as much as the fans made for one amazing experience that no one in that audience will ever forget. If you weren't there, you will never understand what you missed.
CKY played every song from their first two albums, with the exception of only three not making the night's setlist. Three songs from their album "An Answer Can Be Found" were also thrown in which was a surprise since the band usually strays away from playing many of those songs live. Two songs from their newest venture, "Carver City" were also thrown into the mix. With the recent exit of their keyboardist, originally played by Matty J who moved over to bass with another filling in on keys, the majority of "Carver City" isn't played due to a missing sound. Without the keys, the songs are missing that something extra that make them amazing, so I doubt we'll be hearing much from that album until a new keyboardist is brought in. Often being chided for not playing new material, the band played their newest single "Afterworld" to great cheers. After only being played live in it's entirety for the second time, the night before in Teaneck, NJ being the first, the song sounded solid live and with Chad Ginsburg on vocals, it was a great time hearing the song with everyone else in the crowd, rocking away.
All in all, CKY's Hellview V was a great night enjoyed by many and will be an unforgettable experience to all who attended. Fans flew in from several states and a few European countries, all for the "Superbowl of CKY shows."
With great fans, masterful music, and the best friends a guy could ask for, this night will forever be emblazoned in my head for years to come and will be hard to top.
