Caitlyn has a fabulous voice and great stage presence
Thoroughly enjoyed Caitlyn’s show! She was engaging, fantastic voice, and presence on stage. Highly recommend seeing her- and I hope to see her again!
Y’all. If she is in your city. Go. She’s vocally the most incredible voice you’ll hear today, tomorrow, ever. Go.
You hear about those who saw Springsteen in small Jersey shore bars in the early 70's. Or the Beatles at Hamburg's Star Club in 1962. That's the feeling you get from Caitlyn Smith's Starlight tour. Her Covington, KY show was amazing. From the first guitar chords of "Before you Called Me Baby" to the final, rousing "Contact High" this was a concert for the ages. She sang 10 tracks from her debut Starlight album, plus 2 more released on vinyl this past Saturday, plus a #1 she penned with Meghan Trainor, plus a cover of Prince's "Kiss." She's been a successful songwriter for some years. This shows up in lyric phrases like "..catching the eye of every Hefner in the room...," or "...I was baptized by the fire in your kiss," or "I'll speed down the highway...so fast that the hurt can't catch up..." Now Caitlyn's stepping out on her own as a performer. Versus the album, you'll lose the strings and keyboards. But not miss them at all. Her touring band, especially lead guitar and drums, are fantastically talented. Her voice live is much better (more dynamics) than what was captured on the CD (which was fine). And the feeling she brings to each song is amazing (outdoes Garth on "Tacoma"). Had never heard of her before. I saw her on NPR's "Live from Here" -- that got me to the concert (missed her Tonight Show appearance, which seems to have already been taken down). Madison Live venue has no seats, and holds only 350. Long, narrow rectangular "bar" with cinder-block walls (that is, modest acoustics). Maybe 50 were there last week. Despite that, this was one of the best concerts I have been to in decades. She's on her inaugural headlining tour now, and then opening for Sheryl Crow later in the year. Several YouTube videos of produced and live performances are available. Do yourself a favor and go see Caitlyn Smith live.
