BONEY JAMES IN CONCERT:
Legendary sax man Boney James is a model of stamina and endurance, consistently wowing fans with his nonpareil virtuosity and herculean performances. Taking the stage with his trusty Selmer Mark VI saxophone, James eschews the placidity of smooth jazz in favor of a bombastic playing style, and whether he's leading call and response with his band or tearing through an epic solo he never fails to bring the house down. Billboard named him their No. 3 Contemporary Jazz Artist of the Decade, and fans lucky enough to catch him on his upcoming tour will be left with no questions as to why. ?
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Massachusetts-born James Oppenheim, a.k.a. Boney James, began playing clarinet at age eight, switching to saxophone two years later. In his teens, he was introduced to Motown and jazz saxophonist Grover Washington Jr., leading him to join a fusion band when his family moved him to Los Angeles at age 14. Following stints as a session player for acts like the Isley Brothers and Teena Marie and a featured role playing in Morris Day's band, James released his solo debut album Trust in 1992. Since then, he has released more than a dozen albums, selling more than three million records worldwide and earning a number of accolades including a Soul Train Award and two NAACP Image Awards. Back on the road, ?he'll draw from his decade-spanning catalog to deliver fans an unforgettable night of virtuoso sax playing.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Unbelievable! A non-stop wonderful show for almost 2 hours. Boney seems almost unreal in how long he can hold a note. Don't miss this!"
"Boney James is a great performer. He came off of the stage and danced with the audience, and he played to both sides of the stage. He sounded great and his band was fantastic."
"Boney James did what Boney does. He rocked the place. Great concert. Would go again next week if they played."
Saw Boney in NYC at Sony Hall. Great venue , great atmosphere , and Boney at his best.
First time my family and I have been able to see Boney James live. Amazing show! So glad he performed Butter. That song is how I discovered Boney.
The show was awesome! We really enjoyed the bands before the main event, especially the blue band (sorry can't remember their names). Boney James and his band were top notch. This was our second time seeing them in Louisville and I would see him again if he came back. Thank you so much for the show Boney James :)
The concert was the BOMB! Great preformance by all.
The first warmup performer was Rebecca Jade. She was fantastic! Rebecca was engaging with the audience and she had a beautiful voice! Really enjoyed her set. The next performance was terrible! The act Jeter Jones included (3) individuals (2 men and 1 woman). They were sexist and vulgar with their act and song lyrics. There is no place for this kind of show in Jazz music period! Boney James, well was excellent! I would certainly purchase tickets again for his performance! GREAT SAX!!!!
Really GREAT concert, right atmosphere, venue, people, PERFECT
First act was great. Middle act was just a dj and not live music. Boney was superb!
Boney James delivered he was amazing loved his band, every song he play was great, can’t wait to see him again, thank you boney
Dear God in heaven, whose bright idea was it to have JeterJones open for Boney James. Totally different class! Extremely tacky! To top it off, it seemed like the pre-show went on FOREVER, while the main act was cut short. I enjoyed Boney, but not at the expense of inappropriate talent. Most of the crowd was 50+years old. Why would Jeter Jones be an option???? VERY DISAPPOINTED.
I have been to several Boney James shows! I love his music until Boney the only other entertainer that I would follow anywhere was the late great Luther Vandross and now its Mr. James I can identify his music within a note or two I cant wait and am excited to see him again!??????????????
