Capping off a 7-song set with 'Bleed Me Dry', Liv N' Brilliant from Oguinquit, ME shook Wally's Pub from top to bottom with hard-hitting originals as great as any New England band in decades. They were THE opening band of opening bands. But not for long, because this band is heading straight to the top!
Blacktop Mojo lit Wally's on fire with rocker after rocker plus a mid-show acoustic set that included a trip to Motown with a hot remix of 'My Girl.' Their music is a little bit of everything and they played a little bit of all of it - from the blues-tinged, "It Won't Last", to the grungier "Come Get Your Coat" and the metal bite of songs like "Do It For the Money."
If that wasn't enough meat on the bones, the band also performed their rock ballads, "Why" and "Tail Lights." Do not be mistaken though. This band is beards, beer and badassness. The energy this band puts off is controlled chaos - and it's powerful and beautiful at once. Jaws dropped when bass player Matt Curtis sang in harmony with Matt James - woop - it was perfection.
Leading the motley crew is singer Matt James. And the guy can sing anything. Not only can he, but he did, wrapping the show with Aerosmith's "Dream On" - on key, scream and all - to put a final flawless stomp on the crowd.
See them!!
