Benjamin Clementine is a phenomenal artist and musician. I am so very happy that I took the time to seek him out after hearing his voice in the Burberry commercial. That was the first moment his voice resonated with me. I found and watched a video for "I Won't Complain", it resonated with my soul. He would probably cringe at my use of the word 'eccentric' to describe his way of being but it's definitely a feeling I have about him...and temperamental too. He didn't seem to be overly impressed with "Americans", which is how he addressed the crowd. Humph.
Totally unabashed was his interaction with the audience. I suspect he would have preferred it to have been kept to a minimum and more one-sided. Though not quite apparent to everyone in the audience, simply put, no comments from the peanut gallery PLEASE and hold your applause until the end of the performance. My advice: show up, shut up, and listen! His "soul" purpose is to make you FEEL SOMETHING. I cried multiple times during his performance...Yes. It's like that.
