About
Banda Maguey are a Regional Mexican band from Jalisco, Mexico. Fronted by singer Ernesto Solano, the band broke through in the 1990s as the subgenre known as technobanda swept the airwaves in their native country. Banda Maguey released their debut album, Tumbando Ca?a in 1994, which featured the group’s popular cover of “El Alacrán” by La Sonora Matancera. That same year, the band made their debut in the U.S. and signed with Fonovisa Records, releasing ten more albums throughout the ‘90s and early 2000s. After embarking on a solo career in the early 2010s, Solano spent several months in jail for misusing the band’s name in connection with his solo efforts. Since then, Banda Maguey have continued steadily releasing music, including collaborative albums with Banda Zorro and Banda La Mentira. Their most recent full-length is 2023’s Como México No Hay Dos.
