Swedish DJ, song remixer and record producer Axwell specializes in EDM (electronic dance music), and has become one of the most sought-after acts in this genre. He is a four-time Grammy nominee for Best Remixed Recording and Best Dance Recording, and he has garnered a reputation in the DJ world of shaking things up through frequent collaboration with other singers, DJs and producers. Axwell's concerts are highly valued by ticket holders for their circus-like variety of singers and dancers, along with world-class dance music that inspires a rave-like party atmosphere. Events feature intricate laser light shows and thundering bass-heavy music that pours out of a vast array of speakers. His latest single, "I Am," has been strongly received and accompanies a well-produced music video.
Axwell began his musical journey at age nine when his first instrument was a drum kit. His aim was to produce all of his own music and beats, so he soon traded in his drum kit for a computer. He began releasing music in 2002, and his first break came along in 2004, when he released "Feel The Vibe." The song successfully put him on the map, peaking at No. 1 on the U.K. Dance Singles Chart and charting well in Finland and the Netherlands. The track is but one of many collaborations between the DJ and his contemporary mix masters, producers and singers. The hit "I Am" has reached the No. 1 spot on the Beatport EDM chart. Axwell's tours take him all around the globe, and he recently announced at a performance in the Philippines in which all proceeds of the event will be donated to victims of super typhoon Haiyan.
Disorganized. Sound system and coat check sucked!!
If I had signed up to go to a regular electronic dance music concert, I would have been impressed with this show. However, the hype and previews led me to believe there would be more of a story line and/or spectacle than they provided. Still would have given 3 stars if the line and bar were managed better. The entry line was still down the block at 11:30pm for patrons with tickets in hand, and the bar took 15 minutes to get a drink. The ballroom itself was beautiful, and the 3 minutes of opera was interesting, but I expected a lot more.
Hammerstein Ballroom is always a pleasure of a venue to party in. Axwell did a great set and the party went on till almost 3 am! A great EDM experience!
axwell's set was great, but I was disappointed that there were no performances as promoted in the trailer. only some weird "opera" singer came out in the beginning - most of the reason I went was because I thought it would be different than just a club set type show. regardless, the music was amazing as were the lights so not a completely lost night.
Awesome show, cant wait for the next Act in late March!!! Venue was amazing...
Axwell knows how to do right. Amazing opening and overall great set. Wish Sebastian would have joined in.
I've wanted to Axwell for the longest time now, as well as the Swedish trio but Axwell above all else. Glad I got the chance to see the maestro in the City, what more perfect atmosphere than a BALLROOM with a glimmering-all-night chandelier and incredible lasers? I didn't see as much "theatrical" aspects as I wanted, but I've heard Axwell never disappoints and he sure delivered, as well as supporters No_ID and Deniz Koyu. NYC does it right every time. See you all at Act 2.
Amazing. Need more Axwell and Swedish House Mafia in New York City.
This event was extremely over priced for what it actually became. This was hyped up so much that I am actually upset that i believed this to be something that it wasnt. I could have gone to pacha or any other techno venue to see what happened. I left early and could not take the horrible music and crowd. It sounded like i was back at MSG for swedish house mafia. I would like my money back.
Axwell and his supporting acts were great! Had such an epic night! I was however expecting to see a lot more cirque de soliel type of acts on the stage during the sets. Looking forward to the next show!
