The venue is small enough so that no seat is a bad one really, but the weird rules about who could take what to the berm area seemed oppressive. More importantly, most of the bands I saw were not blues players at all.
I was looking forward to hearing blues music but I don't think that is what I heard really. I guess I was assuming it would be the Muddy Waters type of music.
This was my first blues concert in Austin. The venue was awesome; every seat was a good one. Food trucks were good. Best of show was absolutely Jimmy Vaughn and Sue Foley; I knew I was in the presence of greatness. Mad guitar skills! CimaFunk was off the chain, too. All of the acts were fun. If I had to criticize, many of the bands were not what I call blues. However, all had high entertainment value. Thank you for the hard work that had to go into putting on such a wonderful weekend.
I have a lot of issues with this event. The whole blanket fiasco - with them checking the size of every blanket and throwing away the ones that were too big was a stupid and ridiculous thing to do. And, of course, they abandoned the later after they threw away all of our blankets. First day bands were mostly good, except for The Altons and the Sinseers definitely weren't blues bands. The second day had a Jazz Piano player and a hip hop artist? Why? its a freaking blues festival. We won't attend again.
Thank you so much for making this festival happen in Austin. One of my oldest friends traveled in from Chicago and was blown away by the Blues Fest here. Austin Blues Fest is a one-of-a-kind festival, in a one-of-a-kind town.
Saturday's shows were excellent especially with Buddy Guy closing down the show. But Sunday I wanted to get the Blues and there was no Blues music to be had. The venue was nice and the shows were all on schedule. Need More Blues !!
I had a great time, no matter where you sat at the event the seats were great. Ticket Master has never disappointed when I ordered tickets. Loved the event and easy access to my tickets and the event.
Loved the small size! Very clean comfortable and convenient. Free Topo Chico-we were so very hydrated . Could have used a taco option for food.
Really enjoyed the fact that you had Buddy Guy & Bobby Rush plus the spiritual group, The 5 Blind Boys. I alway enjoy the local Jimmy Vaughan. Please have more blues acts the next time on the second day it was lacking in true blues artists. Grab some more blues entertainers from other cities in Texas (Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, etc,) too round out the show. No Jazz please or Zydeco. Thank you.
