The Nutcracker was well worth my attendance. I enjoyed every minute of it! This performance should not be missed by any ballet enthusiast.
the dancers were spectacular. The performance was spectacular. The script was not what I was expecting and it wasn't a bad thing, it was entertaining, but I came to see the nutcracker and I felt that I ended up seeing mostly that but then some other stuff at the end with the different regions / seasons or something.
As always, an exquisite performance and experience
Having seen productions of the Nutcracker almost annually for many decades, my expectations were for another comfortable production of the holiday classic. Holy cow! My expectations were completely blown away, especially with the incredible sets, which were orders of magnitude better than ANY production I’ve ever seen. Absolutely incredible! Five stars, and if six were possible, I’d give it six. Bravo!
The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center is a beautiful venue for this lavish production. From the dizzying video projected onto the scrim during the overture (brilliant) to the giant wardrobe and arm chair that grows before the mice arrive to battle the soldiers, it was riveting. Two things left me wondering though: why is there no Sugar Plum Fairy leading them into the Land of Sweets and why is the choreography slightly contemporary in the pas de deux? As a student of the Petipa choreography, it felt just a little bit off. The talent of the company is noteworthy with top notch dancing. I particularly liked the “Arabian” depicted as a snake and snake charmers. Very clever. All in all, this show is well worth seeing - again and again.
The projector is nice but nothing replaces lavish props and dreamy costumes. The female costumes can be more spectacular. The orchestra was amazing. The dancers were superb.
I bought tickets for my Mom for Christmas and also took my 12 year old daughter with us. It was such a magical show, we ALL loved it! My mom even cried at the end! We were impressed by the concessions set up and the little booths as well. We can’t wait to go again next year! I will say.. we thought we had to get there super early but there’s not much to do before getting to your seat, so if you don’t plan on shopping or getting concessions don’t feel like you have to rush! We did get a great parking spot though!
It was a beautiful and magical performance. It was my 1st time ever and I got to take my mom which made it that much more special
We just relocated from Seattle, and have been faithful Pacific NW Ballet (PNB) supporters. The Nutcracker has been our annual tradition for the past 30 years. This was my first attendance in the ATL, and I have to say that this ranks in my top 2 productions. We will definitely attend next year, and are now looking at the entire season for additional ballet performance. Well done Atlanta Ballet!!
