Arkells in Concert
Arkells hail from Hamilton, Ontario, the midsize industrial city located about an hour west of the bustling metropolis of Toronto. And from day one, they've flaunted their hometown pride en route to becoming one of Canada's most popular rock bands.?
The quintet named themselves after the west-end Hamilton street where they lived as students attending McMaster University, and their 2008 debut album, ‘Jackson Square,' paid tribute to the namesake shopping mall located in the heart of the city. But most importantly, the Arkells actually sounded like Hamilton, embodying the city's gritty, working-class spirit in proletarian anthems — like "Oh, the Boss Is Coming!" — that betrayed the deep influence of fellow Ontario indie-rock rabble-rousers the Constantines.?
After winning the Juno Award for New Group of the Year in 2010, the Arkells began to shed their steeltown skin and indie aesthetic. Max Kerman's impassioned vocals drove the soulful pop strut of "Leather Jacket" and the effervescent "Come to Light" (an open-freeway anthem in the mold of Don Henley's 1980s classic "Boys of Summer").?
With 2016's ‘Morning Report,' they started taking notes from contemporary pop and hip-hop, resulting in the cheeky, gospelized R&B of "Drake's Dad" (whose video featured a cameo from Mr. Dennis Graham himself) and the brash, brass-knuckled single "Knocking at the Door" (The band's live setup has likewise expanded, incorporating a horn section and a chorus of female backing singers they dub the Arkettes).?
But even as the Arkells racked up multiple Juno Awards and ascended to the ranks of bona fide arena rockers in Canada, they've never forgotten their Hamilton roots. They've supplied local Canadian Football League team the Ticats with their theme song, they continue to take an active role in endorsing local progressive politicians and urban transit initiatives, and Kerman and bassist Nick Dika have even opened their own sports bar downtown.?
In June of 2018, the Arkells thanked their hometown by headlining their biggest concert to date, bringing more than 20,000 fans out to Hamilton's Tim Hortons Field for a gathering they dubbed The Rally. That sense of triumph has carried over to the subsequent album ‘Rally Cry,' whose gold-plated fusion of Springsteen-sized grandeur and modern-R&B groove shows that one of Canada's most beloved rock bands is ready to take on the world.

Was the best concert so far. And I’ll be seeing them again in Thunder Bay September 14th. I can’t wait
the smoking thing..herding eveyone to a fenced in area, when I witnessed people smoking everywhere Appears they only picked on women Men walking around with their drinks and sitting in their seats smoking...only saw them ask women not to, to go the designated area, left the men alone. Not impressed with that Also, providing drinking water that was HOT. Something else should have been put in place to keep it at least cool...
Arkells put on a high energy show that was really entertaining. Budweiser Stage is such a great venue!
Hey! I love your band and had a great time at the concert. It was my first time at Budweiser and y'all made it a great experience. If I did have like one minor complaint is that I wish you could have played Laundry Pile. I know it would not match the vibe of a party lol but I would have loved to hear it live. I am planning on it being my future wedding song with my long time girlfriend. BUT other than that it was pretty sick! wish you all the best. what a great show again!!! cant wait to see you next time
I thought the Arkells put on a great show! I went to night 1 (Friday) of the double header weekend. The crowd was awesome, it was packed! They handed out towels when you entered the show and the fans were waving them around all night. There was tons of crowd engagement, Max (lead singer) went into the crowd during a song too. My only complaint was the audio during the show, it was hard to make out the words he was singing/saying. But overall highly recommend seeing them live.
My 9th time seeing the Arkells and it was a great show as always! Best Canadian Band! Excellent showmanship, similar to that of Tragically Hip and The Band! They never miss. See you there next time!
If there is a band to see perform live today... It is Arkells.
This was my second time seeing Arkells live (first time was Grey Cup 2021) this was also my first time at Budweiser Stage and it was all around the best time! The concert was amazing and the atmosphere couldn’t have been better! Would absolutely go to another one of their concerts!
Friday night we were in the pit, Saturday on the Lawn. There isnt a bad seat in the place NO #CHEAPSEATS. Due to some health challenges, I was using a walker, the staff were amazing and very helpful. Budweiser stage is my favorite place to see a concert AND With it being The Arkells "BEST WEEKEND EVER"The venue offers a huge variety of adult beverage options and a really great robot made ice coffee. Looking forward to a few more concerts there this summer
