He was just as irreverent and gloriously raunchy as ever!!! The venue was fantastic. It was just the right size.
This wasn’t a “show,” much less a Christmas show - it was about an hour of undisciplined standup followed by about 30 minutes of questions and answers. I love and respect John Waters, but…. Tacky decorations, offensive music and a drag queen or two or surprise guest appearance could have made this a real, thematic show.
My wife and I attended the John Waters performance at the Civic Theatre in New Orleans this past Sunday 12/11. We drove 4 hours to see the show and rented a room for 2 nights in the city to experience the show. We were in the bottom balcony seats 9/14 and 9/15 and we could not clearly hear the show. The volume was not at the level it should have been. We were not the only ones who had this problem, we heard others around us saying they were having trouble as well and some audience members even left saying they couldn't hear what was being said. This highly disappointed us considering the amount of time and money we devoted to see one of our favorite entertainers. We will highly consider this when we are looking at seeing a show in the Civic Theatre in the future.
Show was typical John Waters. Which I love! Was a little short. About an hour and 20 mins.
It was perfect. Funny, touching, simple but deeply human as well as humane. Mr. Waters is a treasure on all accounts.
OMG - John Waters is so funny and articulate. One thing to be prepared for is that he comes out blazing. He talks fast and makes great jokes, tells great stories, etc., but it comes at you fast and you'll love it! Be prepared if you want to ask him a question because he will take and answer them.
Great show, great venue. I appreciate the COVID protocols although they seemed a little poitless for example when my vaccination card was checked but not also my ID. Our waitress during our visit was not very attentive or present, to the point where we stepped outside to try to place our food order but was told our waitress would be by; after a while she was but, a little short with us and awkwardly yelling over a couple between us to take out order, rather than coming from behind us to be less disruptive during the show.. but hey maybe she was just having a bad night or felt like she already had made enough for that night so wasn’t feeling the hustle? Idk but I saw plenty of other servers very busy back and forth until the very end. Pizza was a little bottom soggy in the middle but was good otherwise. Really liked my bread puddin. Otherwise it was all great!
Not for the faint of heart or the politically correct but what a funny show I can't wait to get tickets for next year's Christmas show. It was just a night of good laughs with good friends and a great storyteller.
I could listen to John Waters for hours on end. Attending the John Waters Christmas was spectacular and really got us in the spirit. Hearing stories from his long and impressive career was so much fun! Not to be missed!!!!
