New York Liberty History
The New York Liberty was founded on October 30, 1996 and is one of three active founding franchises in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The Liberty have made five WNBA Finals appearances, in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2023, and topped the Eastern Conference seven times. In 2023, the team captured the in-season Commissioner's Cup behind a Finals MVP performance from Jonquel Jones, and later reached the WNBA Finals. Breanna Stewart was named the 2023 WNBA Most Valuable Player, becoming the first Liberty player to win the award, while Courtney Vandersloot earned the Peak Performer Award for assists and Sabrina Ionescu was named to All-WNBA Second Team for a second consecutive season .?

Barclays Center is the downtown Brooklyn home of the New York Liberty. Since hosting the team’s homecoming game in 2021, Barclays Center has housed plenty of playoff action for the Liberty, including two WNBA Finals games in 2023. The downtown Brooklyn digs, which the Liberty share with the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, can house 17,732 at capacity. Led by New York Liberty mascot Ellie the Elephant, home games at Barclays Center will leave fans quaking with excitement.

I have been a fan of the W since 1997 and finally was able to fly from Puerto Rico to see my 2 favorite teams in action. The game was amazing! The Vibe in the Barclays was incredible and I really enjoyed the venue. What a great game!!! My Liberty team is going for the Championship this year! Thank you for an incredible night!~

most I’ve ever paid for a ticketed event and the NY LIBERTY did not disappoint! First game I’ve been to since my dad took me to watch the Liberty at MSG in 1998. Great atmosphere, super cool star attendance. Elie is a riot and the team is top tier this year. NY or nothin!

Avoid CLEAR. Overly zealous guards (examined advil blister pack!) Make CLEAR much slower than main entrance. Eat before arriving: Barclays has limited food choices and is pre cooked prior to gate opening resulting in lukewarm hotdogs, etc. Ushers, however, are polite and professional.
There's no fan like a NY fan. Barclays is a great arena-though I don't like the near 90 degree angle of level 2. You have a good view from any seat. The energy is always contagious and what can I say about Ellie, best mascot ever! The concession stands are the worst though-better to eat before you come.
The talent of those girls was phenomenal, atmosphere crazy good. Easy to get to everything. Loved every second and was sad not to be able to get to game 2
